It’s the reunion of bands who played Cantones, The Rat, The Channel and The Club in Cambridge back in the 1980s and 1990s.
John Tamilio III, singer-songwriter-guitarist, is the remaining, founding member of the Beverly-based Boston band 3D. 3D’s re-emergence has resulted in airplay on WMWM Salem, WZBC, Boston College radio, Activate Media online and other area radio stations.
The group was formed in 1984 and has undergone many incarnations over the past few decades, with Tamilio and drummer Jim Lindroth as the two mainstays.
Tamilio and current 3D bassist John Schuman performed at the Middle East on June 1 to celebrate the legacy of clubs where 3D played regularly throughout the ‘80s. This acoustic duo played an array of 3D’s originals and their music both entertained and enlightened. You see, Tamilio is also Reverend John Tamilio and his years onstage as a rock and roller, and a preacher, got the crowd of area rockers into the moment. Tamilio projects and delivers the material with authority. Those in attendance included Andy Pratt, former Columbia and Nemperor artist who hit with "Avenging Annie" in 1973, Mach Bell from the Joe Perry Project who performed with area legend Gary Shane as well as Pratt, Doug Macdonald Band, Jon Macey, Steve Gilligan and Hummingbird Syndicate, Fred Pineau, James Melanson, Patrick Moynihan, Smitt E. Smitty and their Little Billy Lost
it was a spectacular night of local music upended a bit by the streets being blocked off! It was some Riverfest or something migrating from the banks of the river Charles right smack dab in the middle of Central Square. But that didn't stop it from being partytime and 3D with John Tamilio delivered.
3D’s latest single, available on Spotify and YouTube, is “Everything But Peace,” a critical commentary on contemporary political and social crises. It is due to appear on the forthcoming edition of Boston Rock ‘n’ Roll Anthology (Varulven Records). Their first hit, “A Bit Like You,” was featured on volume eight of the Anthology series.
The band is currently working with producer Greg Dann, compiling new recording of their catalog at Rockpile Recording Studio in Rockport, Massachusetts.
